Wollemi pines are a rare Australian conifer discovered in the early 1990s in the blue mountains of NSW. This ancient tree has peculiar flat fishbone like needles and is fire tolerant - resprouting from the trunk and ground after burning. Wollemi pines are quite adaptable and can tolerant temperatures as low as -7 Celsius or more. They like a well drained soil and a humid site, growing well in part shade or full sun. This tree is very sensitive to root rot in wet spots and waterlogged or heavy clay sites should be avoided.
