  • Stone pines are hardy, fast-growing, heat and drought-tolerant. These trees are native to the Mediterranean region and have grey-green needles when young, maturing to longer dark green needles. The trees grow in a classic conical pine shape, changing gradually to an umbrella shape with a clear stem after age 12.

For Growers.

  • Plant out directly in the field in cool conditions and water in well.

  • Plant on gentle slopes or hilly terrain with good drainage, they do not like wet feet.

  • Frost-tolerant down to -7 degrees Celsius, prefers warmer/coastal climates but will grow inland.

  • Water young plants regularly until established. Once established, it requires little water or fertiliser.

  • Keep weeds down around the tree for at least the first two years until it is established.
