A hardy dwarf tree native to southern and eastern European mountain ranges, often found growing close to the tree line as a shrub. This adaptable species is popular in japanese gardens and as bonsai tree - and does well on shallow, rocky or poor soils. It also tolerates high winds, frosts and coastal conditions well. Well drained soils are best for this tree and soil pH between 5 and 7.5.
